In Sudan, the last successful national population census dates back more than 20 years. The Fifth Population Census of Sudan will be the country’s most ambitious and important statistical project ever. The preparation and delivery of this census is a key requirement for the organisation of the mid-term general elections, and its completion will be a significant milestone in the implementation of the Statistical Information Strategy that is outlined in the Joint Assessment Mission Sudan.
You really can be sure you are in safe hands as we can offer the benefit of experience learned from our growing portfolio of more than 15 national population census projects around the world including: Australia census 1996, Zambia census 2000, Bangladesh census 2000, Tanzania census 2002, Cameron census 2003, Nigeria census 2006, Sudan pilot census 2007, Ethiopia census 2007, Malawi census 2008 and Sudan census 2008.
All census tools are being pre-tested before finalisation for the enumeration in November 2007. The most important pre-test is the Pilot Census which took place in April 2007. This involved testing the whole census process, including census field logistics, questionnaire design, data processing and tabulation.
To ensure the results for this critical census are processed accurately, transparently and securely, DRS has been contracted to supply its world leading PhotoScribe® scanning technology and bespoke software. DRS will also be providing full staff training and 18,000 specially designed forms for the pilot project.
Ten questions on an A4 form will cover age, gender, household composition, place of birth and current residence. But 10 percent of respondents will be surveyed with a much more detailed ‘long form’, including questions on housing, access to sanitation, economic activity, births and deaths.
DRS census data capture solutions are proven to deliver accurate, reliable and up-to-date census results for analysis, in a matter of a few months, rather than the years it might take using traditional methods.
Having been involved in eight National Census Population projects and more than 20 National Population registration projects around the world, DRS has the skills and experience in the complete census data collection cycle.
From the very earliest planning stages of the project and selection of the most appropriate technology, through to project implementation, document scanning and finally the export of the data to the census analysis package, you can be sure you’re in safe hands with DRS.
